Docks, death and XP

Lantern Docks are glowing landing pads. Hover over one and the run is saved. Learn where they are, because you will wake at the last one after a fall.

What a dock does

When you fall

You wake at your last Lantern Dock. Rooms you cleared stay clear. The XP you had not yet banked stays where you fell: fly back to it and it is yours again. Fall a second time before reaching it and it is lost.

Fall in a Guardian's room and you wake outside it, at its Mooring. You decide when to go back in, and retrying costs nothing.

Moorings

The rest room before a Guardian is its Mooring. Reaching one opens that Guardian in the Boss Arena. Prepare there before you enter, and speak to anyone waiting there: the people you meet in Moorings hand over armours and guns as their stories go on. See NPCs.

The map

Open Pause to see the sector map. It shows the rooms you have visited, your ship blinking, and marks on doors for the goals beyond them. To see every sector you have visited, pinch out or tap the minus button. The Mini-map setting adds a faint small map to the room.

People you have spoken to are marked on this map. You can also place pins in three colours: tap a colour at the bottom left, then a room. Tap with another colour to change a pin, or the same colour to remove it. Tap a cleared pinned room to fly back to it, and from a dock you can reach pins in other sectors too, if a found dock there leads to them through safe rooms.

Saves

You have three run slots. Quit saves the run and returns to the start menu; it never abandons it. Abandoning is on the start menu only, behind two confirmations, and banks the run's XP.
